1. Students create textile wares of different nature and purpose, thematic figurative tapestries and panels, decorative fabrics for an interior, clothing fabrics and different souvenir art wares.
2. Taking into consideration the extent of artistic information, rapid changes in the world textile avant-guard, new economical realities, the lecturers of the chair are in continual search working at renewal programs and methods of science.
3. Probably this world outlook breadth rested on traditions and new professional methods forms such phenomenon as « Lviv Style», «Lviv school of art textile».

V. Read and retell the text:
The Chair of Art Textile is one of the oldest in the Lviv National Academy of Arts. Both the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Art and the Chair of Art Textile were founded in the same 1946.
At the time of its formation the traditions of folk and author hand weaving were preserved in Western Ukraine. The new-formed chair got a favourable environment for its development. The first graduation was in 1953. From its foundation and till now the chair has graduated 897 specialists. Among them there are People’s and Honoured artists of Ukraine, Honoured Art Workers, Honoured Workers of light industry, chief artists of large textile enterprises, T. Shevchenko State prize laureates and other diplomas of honour, Doctors and Candidates of science.

At the chair a related specialization “Art Clothing Design” was formed. It trained first dress designers. From the very beginning the Chair of Art Textile was oriented on the wide and many-sided training. Today its educational program is based on mastering of different textile techniques and methods: harness and jacquard weaving, tapestry and carpet weaving; batik, free painting, printed cloth, photo print decoration. Students create textile wares of different nature and purpose, thematic figurative tapestries and panels, decorative fabrics for an interior, clothing fabrics and different souvenir art wares.
The studies last for five and a half years: 4 years – “Bachelor’s degree”, 1,5 years – “Specialist, Master’s degree”.
The students are taught such subjects as fundamentals of composition, professional composition, work in material, theory of textile interweaving, chromatics, the history of the XX-th century art and etc. The breadth of professional training and artistic world outlook are provided with drawing, painting, history of art and other subjects. At its disposal the chair has educational lecture-rooms, specially equipped workshops where classes are conducted under the supervision of experienced masters. Taking into consideration the extent of artistic information, rapid changes in the world textile avant-guard, new economical realities, the lecturers of the chair are in continual search working at renewal programs and methods of science.
Artistic taste, understanding of nature and peculiarity of the craft, love to traditions of Ukrainian folk and world textile are imparted to students by the teachers of the chair. Probably this world outlook breadth rested on traditions and new professional methods forms such phenomenon as “Lviv Style”, “Lviv school of art textile”.
