1 For the tiniest of an instant Olivetti’s inelastic posture slumped. 2 The office of the Pope seemed more of a ballroom than an office. 3 This is a room with a view. 4 At the far end of the wall a man sat writing furiously. 5 I have a responsibility for the safety. 6 What a memory you’ve got! 7 My visitor delivered a succession of blows to the door panels. It was a very good door. 8 You could be a major star – a Cary Grant. 9 «Listen,» said Batty. «I’m developing a story about an insurance salesman.» 10 A man stepped out from a tobacconist’s and waved to them. 11 I tell you, he’s as brave as a man can responsibly be. 12 After that they would meet, perhaps, two or three times a year. 13 Dinny looked at the house; and suddenly saw a face in the window of the dining-room. 14 «It is not a large house,» I said. «We don’t want a large house» 15 Roger looked at him and, without a word, took out his wallet and gave him a ten-shilling note. 16 I just wanted to have a look at the place and ask you a question or two. 17 A woman will only be equal of a man when she earns her living in the same way that he does.18 Far away in a little street there is a poor house. 19 In less than a week Cowperwood knew the finantial contition of Messrs. Waterman as well, as they did, better, to a dollar. 20 It was a new fear, different from that which she once confided in her own flat, yet grown from the same root. 21 Love seemed now so little a thing, seemed to have lost the warmth and the power. 22 It was too great a shock to be borne with calmness. 23 It is as good a place, I suppose, as you could find. 24 But he gave her so long and so peculiar a stare from the corner where he was having tea, that she knew he had not forgiven her.
