The magnum tractor
The heart of the Magnum tractor – big, 8.3 L diesel engine-remains the definition of pure agricultural power.
Bringing that power to life is an 18-speed fuel-powershift transmission, which gives you complete control of 18 forward and 4 reverse speeds. If you utilize demanding PTO implements, you can control 24 forward speeds.
The Mechanical Front drive lets you utilize the entire working weight of the tractor for more traction, minimizing compaction and improving productivity.
The PTO features a heavy-duty, multiplate wet clutch for smooth engagement and the strength to handle your toughest jobs with ease.
The tractor is designed with a luxury cab. Step into a Magnum tractor cab and you’ll discover the true meaning of luxury. More than 47 square feet (4.37 m2) of glass gives you sweeping visibility that’s free from hood obstructions.

Machines for crop production
More and more machines are used on farms today increasing labour productivity.
Machines that are used for crop production include those that till the soil, plant the crops, perform various cultural practices during the growing season and harvest the crops.
Many machines are known to be powered by tractors. Implements such as ploughs, cultivators, harrows, sweepers, drills and planters may be mounted on a tractor or they may be pulled by a tractor.
However, an increasing number of farm machines are now self-propelled. These machines are grain combine harvesters, cotton pickers, forage harvesters, and many other specialized farm machines.
Answer these questions:
a)
1. Какие операции выполняют машины, используемые в растениеводстве?
2. Почему зерноуборочные комбайны называют самоходными?
b)
1. What operations do machines for crop production perform?
2. Why are grain combine harvesters called self propelled machines?

Tillage implements
The modern plough is mounted directly behind the tractor. The typical plough consists of a frame, which is attached to the tractor. The main components on contact with the soil are the coulter, the share, the mouldboard and the landside. The coulter is carried by the frame of the plough. The share, mouldboard and landside are bolted to the frog, which is bolted to the leg of the plough. The plough leg is carried by the frame.
The function of the coulter is to make a vertical cut and divide the Soil raised by the share from the unploughed land. The combination of the share and the coulter creates a furrow.
The mouldboard is the part of the plough which turns the furrow over and consists of a long, curved piece of hardwearing steel.
The heaviest cultivators are used for breaking up ground, prior to ploughing. They consist of two rows of tines mounted on a strong frame and known as rigid tine cultivators.
Harrows are cultivators which only work to a depth of 6 inches. They consist of four or five rows of either rigid or spring tines mounted on a frame Harrows have many affects on the soil during the process of seedbed preparation. Primarily, they break and sort the clods.
