1. Classification of cards
The card is a great variety and classified for their intended purpose for the three main types:
Navigational charts (seas, lakes, navigable rivers) for holding the pads and the definition of the place of the ship during the voyage.
Reference cards - to obtain a boatmaster additional information about the area of navigation.
Special cards - to ensure the sailing vessel with the use of radio equipment.
For Navigator-Amateur major importance have navigation maps. They are subdivided into:
Plans (scale 1: 1 000 - 1: 25000), who gives the most detailed a large image of a sensitive area. Apply at the entrance of the vessel in the port, harbour and roadstead.
Private map (scale 1: 50000-1: 500000) serve for swimming at a distance from the coast and also to approach from the sea to the shore. These maps enough inflicted deep and onshore facilities, suitable for determining the place of the ship.
General maps (scale 1: 500000 and 1: ratio of 5,000,000) are used for the computation of the way of the ship while sailing in the open sea or ocean and for common navigation calculations.
Pilot cards for rivers and some of reservoirs (the scale of 1: 10,000 to 1: 100000) are used for orientation of the boatmaster's certificates in глазомерной pilotage. Pilot cards are usually issued to individual albums. At the beginning of each album is a collection sheet, i.e. the arrangement of sheets of card respectively river (along the channel). The pilot map symbols cause the low-flow channel, depth, shipping offshore and onshore signs, large суводи, свальные flow, coastal settlements, the valley of the river with the mountains and the hills and etc. (see Annex). On separate plates of large scale can be given rapids and their elements, in particular подвалья, a description of the waterway and shipping conditions on the hard sand bars and places; the recommendations of the pilotage through the rapids; photographs and sketches of the characteristic sites, for example, the mining market. The piloting of the river maps of the gasket is not being carried out.
Cards on the lake and large water reservoirs are compiled according to the same rules as for the sea, but most of them are published in rectangular coordinates, and not in меркаторской projection, like the sea. The use of both types of cards the same way.
