  1. Define the meanings of the adjective with the nouns on the right. Translate the resulting combinations. Use them in the sentences of your own.

Underground caverns, reservoirs, salt domes, tanks, salt formations, storage, gas storage vessel, storage facilities, rock formations.

Depleted gas reservoirs, gas - bag, strength.

  1. Guess the missed word, translate the extract, and ans- wer the question.

Depleted Gas

These are the most prominent and common form of

underground storage. They are the

formations of natural gas fields that have produced all their

economically recoverable gas. The depleted

formation is readily capable of holding injected natural gas. Using the depleted is economically attractive because it allows the re-use, with

suitable modification, of the extraction and distribution infrastructure remaining from the productive life of the gas field which reduces the start-up

costs. Depleted s are also attractive because their

geological and physical characteristics have already been studied by geologists and petroleum engineers and are usually

well known. Consequently, depleted s are generally

the cheapest and easiest to develop, operate, and maintain of the three types of underground storage.

Why depleted gas reservoirs are so attractive for un- derground gas storage?

  1. S or c? Fill in the missing letters, read the extract, and answer the question. Aquifer Re...Ervoir

Aquifer... are underground, porou... and permeable ro...k formation... that are known a... natural water re...ervoir.... In

...ome ca...e... they ...an be u...ed for natural ga torage.

U...ually these fa...ilitie... are operated on a ...ingle annual ...y...le as with depleted re...ervoir.... The geologi...al and phy...i...al ...hara...teri...ti...s of aquifer formation are not known ahead of time and a ...ignifi...ant investment has to go into investigating these and evaluating the aquifer’s ... tabi- lity for natural ga torage.

Are aquifer reservoirs as attractive for underground gas storage as depleted gas reservoirs?

  1. Insert necessary prepositions or conjunctions, trans- late the extract, and answer the question. (To, of, unless, over, for, within, by, down, into, until, with) Salt Formation

Underground salt formations are well suited natural

gas storage. Salt caverns allow very little the injected

natural gas to escape from storage specifically

extracted. The walls a salt cavern are strong and

impervious gas the lifespan the storage facility.

Once a suitable salt feature discovered and found to be

suitable the development a gas storage facility

a cavern is created the salt feature. This is done the

process cavern leaching. Fresh water is pumped a

borehole the salt. Some the salt is dissolved leaving

a void and the water, now saline, is pumped back the

surface. The process continues the cavern is the desired

size. Once created, a salt cavern offers an underground

natural gas storage vessel very high deliverability.

Cushion gas requirements are low, typically about 33 percent total gas capacity.

What is the difference between the depleted gas reservoirs and salt formations?
