  1. Read and translate the text. Write a few lines saying what products of oil recycling are the most useful and why.

Products from oil (petroleum products) help us do many things. We use them to fuel our airplanes, cars and trucks, to heat our homes, and to make products like medicines and

plastics. Even though petroleum products make life easier - finding, producing, moving, and using them can cause problems for our environment like air and water pollution. Over the years, new technologies and laws have helped to reduce problems related to petroleum products. As with any industry, the governments monitor how oil is produced, refined, stored, and sent to market to reduce the impact on the environment.

T he hydrocarbon components are separated from each other by various refining processes. In a process called fractional distillation petroleum is heated and sent into a tower. The vapors of the different components condense on collectors at different heights in the tower. The separated fractions are then drawn from the collectors and further processed into various petroleum products.

One of the many products of crude oil is a light substance with little color that is rich in gasoline. Gasoline (petrol) is used in cars, diesel fuel is used in trucks, and heating oil is used to heat our homes. When petroleum products are burned as fuel, they give off carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that is linked with global warming. The use of petroleum products also gives off pollutants -carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and unburned hydrocarbons - that help to form air pollution. Since a lot of air pollution comes from cars and trucks, many environmental laws have been aimed at changing the make-up of gasoline and diesel fuel so that they produce fewer emissions.

Another is a black tarry substance that is rich in asphalt.

As the lighter fractions, especially gasoline, are in the greatest demand, so-called cracking processes have been developed in

which heat, pressure, and certain catalysts are used to break up the large molecules of heavy hydrocarbons into small molecules of light hydrocarbons. Some of the heavier fractions find eventual use as lubricating oils, paraffins, and highly refined medicinal substances such as petrolatum.
