Places of interests in the East End.

Tower of London. It used to be a fortress, a palace, a prison, a mint. The tower of London is famous for its prisoners: Sir Tomas More, Gay Fawkes… Now it is a museum.

St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece. It was build from 1675 to 1709. It is crowned with a huge dome.

Tower bridge has stood over the river Themes in London since 1894 and is one of the finest bridges in the world.

Some other attractions of London.

Palace of Westminster. It was build during the reign of Edward the Confessor. It was the royal residence. The parliament met here till 19th century. The present House of Parliament was build after the fire in the Palace of Westminster.

Museums and art galleries of London.

London is very rich in museums and art galleries. If you are fond of painting you'll go to the Tate Gallery. Rich sugar manufacturer Henry Tate founded it in1897. There are 3000 oils and 19000 watercolors and drawings.

The British Museum is the largest and richest of its kind in the world. The present building was built in 1852. By law a copy of every book , periodical and newspaper, published in Britain, must be presented in this Museum. The collection of this museum is so vast that only a very small percentage of it is on show to the public. The Egyptian Hall is especially known and popular.
