The first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. in Olympia, Greece. The Games took place every four years for nearly twelve centuries. They included many different events, such as sprint, boxing, wrestling, discus throw, long jump and others. All the cities in Greece sent best athletes to Olympia to compete in the Games. When the Games took place, all the wars and disputes stopped. So, the Olympic Games became the symbol of peace and friendship.

In 1896 the first modern Olympic Games took place and the educational value of sports for modern man based on Greek ideals.

Now, there are Summer and Winter Olympic Games. They are held separately. There are always several cities wishing to host the Games.

The International Committee of Olympic Games selects the most suitable city. Thousand of athletes, journalists and guests arrive to the Games and it takes great efforts to arrange everything.

Russia joined the Olympic movement in 1952. In 1980, Moscow hosted the twenty-second Olympic Games. Our sportsmen won many gold, silver and bronze medals.

In 2014 Sochi will be the first Russian city to host the Winter Olympics Games

Teacher: Thank you. You know, we have many good sportsmen not only in Bredy, but also in our technical college. Let play a bussines game «Press-conference». You are all journalists and correspondents from newspapers, magazines and TV. Today we have a guest. This is Kseniya Malisheva, the student of the second course of our agricultural technical college. Her future profession is a cook and confectioner. Now she is a good sportsman. She will tell us about herself, and give you an interview.

Kseniya: I am Kseniya Malisheva, the student of the second course of our technical college. My hobby is sport. I go in for boxing. This event gives me health, strength and energy. I think that sports helps me in my life and in my studying very much. It brings up and trains me to be responsible, disciplinary, communicative. Sport is a big part of my life. I especially like to participate in boxing competitions. My friends and I go to another regions with our trainer, meet new people, make many friends and improve our sport abilities and results, I would really like to represent my country internationally.

        1. Retell the text the Olympic Games. Make up your own story, (topic) about sport on theme: “Sport in my life” (in writing) using the Exercise on pages 205-206 book “Happy English – 3”

        2. As you are students of economic an account calculation’s course, try to make up a sport account of X Winter Sport Competitions “Ural snow-storm in Bredy” as economists. Chose your own task, as you can do it.

Use the text on page 190-191 “Happy English – 3” in writing.
