5. Make one sentence from two.

  1. This is the man. He is our teacher.

  2. These are the textbooks. We use them during our English classes.

  3. This is a classroom. We have our English classes there.

  4. Nick is a student. He is very good at Auto mechanics.

  5. Barbara works for a company. It makes washing machines.

UNit 11 Fuel warning light

1. Read and translate the text:

Many cars have a fuel warning light. When the level of fuel (petrol) in the tank is very low, this light switches on and the driver can see that he needs more petrol. How does this light work?

When the level of the fuel falls, the float moves downwards. When this happens, the arm also moves downwards and makes the lever touch an electrical contact. This switches on the fuel light in the car.

When the driver sees the fuel warning light, he puts more petrol into the tank. This makes the fuel level rise and pushes the float upwards. When the float rises, it makes the arm move upwards and this causes the lever to move upwards also. The fuel warning light then switches off.

2. Remember the new words:

1. Read and translate the text:

A car is made of different materials. The windscreen, for example, is made of glass. The headlights are also made of glass. The tires are made of rubber. They are filled with air. The air in the tires is compressed (to approximately 1,5gm/cm3). The body is made of metal. The metal is painted. The steering wheel is made of plastic. The mirrors are made of plastic and glass. The rear-view mirror is fixed to the roof. The wing-mirror is fixed to the door.

The engine is made of different metals. The pistons are made of aluminum and the valves are made of steel. The springs are also made of steel.

2. Learn the new words:
