Education in Kazakhstan
1. The educational system in Kazakhstan is conducted in two languages: Kazakh and Russian. 2. The Constitution and acting laws prohibit any discrimination on the basis of language or ethnicity and guarantee equal rights in education, regardless of nationality. 3. In general, Kazakhstan has had great success in the realm of education during the last 75 years. 4. Nowadays, the educational system in the Republic presents a broad range of methods and forms and employs skilled and educated teachers. 5. It includes primary, technical-professional, specialized, and higher education institutions.
6. Private education started to take shape in Kazakhstan after its independence. 7. In order to open a private institution that teaches people, private educational institutions have to obtain a special license. 8. Their work is evaluated by a special accreditation commission.
9. The system of higher education prepares highly-skilled experts. 10. Most of these educational institutions have a pedagogical and technical profile while some also specialize in agriculture and medicine. 11. Others prepare experts on the economy, transport and communication, jurisprudence, arts and cinema. 12. Students are awarded stipends which are equal to three times the minimum wage.
13. At the age of 16 young people can choose their further education at school or outside school. 14. They can continue studying at school until the age of 18. 15. They can leave school and continue their education in various colleges, polytechnics and vocationally oriented schools, such as drama schools, art schools, ballet schools or schools of librarianship and others. 16. The most part of these institutions are private, i.e. fee-charging.
17. These institutions do not give higher education, they prepare a variety of professions for industry and commerce: shorthand, typing, book-keeping and many others.
18. The UK post-school institutions of higher education are universities, polytechnics and other higher education colleges.
19. Admission to universities is by examination or testing. 20. Some Kazakh students get grants from their local education authority. 21. The state has made education free in some types of educational establishments. 22. Students are entitled (иметь право на что-либо) to the free use of college laboratories equipped up-to-date, of well-stocked libraries, sport facilities and clubs.
23. A university graduate leaves with a degree. 24. It usually takes four years to get a Bachelor degree. 25. A Master degree may be got in one or two additional years.
26. Universities are centers of research as well as teaching and many postgraduates are engaged in research for higher degrees.
27. Universities greatly differ from each other. 28. They differ in date of foundation, size, history, traditions and general organization.
