We are a large steel company and we wish to export a consignment of steel tubing, approximate weight 50 tonnes, and lengths varying from 3 to 5 metres.
This consignment is destined for RhurGold Gmbh, Hamburg. We would like you to pick up the load, transport it to Murmansk from Petrozavodsk, and then deliver it to its destination in Germany at the beginning of June.
Please let us have details of your sailings and freight charges. We can promise you regular shipments if we find the quoted rate competitive.
Yours faithfully,

Our ref. Your ref.
Mr. A.Kardashov May 5, 20__ Export Department OAO STALTRANSIT Krivokolenny 9 Moscow
Dear Mr. Kardashov,
Thank you for your enquiry of May 2 which we received today. Enclosed you will find details of our rates, shipping schedules, and documents required for transportation.
We have connections throughout the world and as a result of our wide experience we can advise you on suitable packing for any type of goods you wish to export. The most suitable container for your consignment would be a 20-foot container which is 20' x 8' x 4', or in metres, 6.1 x 2.4 x 1.2. This can carry a payload of 18,300 kg. It has a solid removable top, and will protect the metal against all elements.
We would suggest that as the consignment is to be loaded from lorry to ship, and then transferred again, you should use our Combined Transport Bill which will cover the goods from point of acceptance to point of delivery. If the transaction is on a letter of credit basis, you should notify your bank that this document will be acceptable instead of the B/L.

Please fill out the enclosed Export Cargo Shipping Instructions and the Export Cargo Packing Instructions and hand them to our driver when he calls to collect the consignment. Although we accept door-to-door responsibility, we would advise you to take an all risk insurance policy, and send a copy of this and four copies of the commercial invoice to us.
Your packing should be adequate, and the cargo marked on at least two sides with a shipping mark which includes the destination port. These marks should correspond with those on your shipping documents.
The earliest vessel due out of Murmansk for Hamburg is the MS Valkirija which sails from Tromsoe on May 20 and will arrive in Murmansk on May 23. Thus your goods may be scheduled for delivery on this vessel, ETD Murmansk May 30, ETA Hamburg June 7, which appears to suit your schedule for delivery. Please note, however, that the vessel closes for cargo on May 28.
If you want us to reserve a space on the MS Valkirija, please complete the enclosed forms and return them to us as soon as possible.
You will see from our list of tariffs that charges are calculated by cubic metre or tonne and that we offer substantial rebates for regular shipments.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely, Ben Solomon Ben Solomon Supervisor
