3. Answer the questions.

4 . Read the information about the cooking Ukrainian borshch. Then put the pictures into the right order.

BORSHCH

Borshch has had a special and important place on the daily menu of the Ukrainian people for many years. It is usually served as a first course for dinner. It tastes best when served with pampushkas (small round buns) and garlic.

I ngredients

  • 2 litres water

  • 3 00 g beef

  • 300 g shredded cabbage

  • 2 shredded carrots

  • 1 beetroot cut into thin strips

  • 3-4 potatoes cut into thin strips

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 1/2 cup beans

  • 1 stick of celery (sliced)

  • sunflower oil

  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce

  • dill, parsley, salt, sugar, pepper (to taste)

STEPS

  1. Put meat into a large saucepan. Add water and bring to the boil over a medium-high heat. Turn heat to low. Simmer for about 40 minutes.

  2. Add potato, cabbage and simmer for 10 more minutes.

  3. Add pre-cooked beans.

  4. Put onion, carrot, celery and beetroot into a frying pan. Add sunflower oil and brown for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce. Stir the mix into the saucepan.

  5. Add salt sugar and pepper to taste.

Serve the borshch hot and with sour cream. Sprinkle it with dill and/or parsley, and don't forget the pampushkas and garlic.
