We use –er, -est for: - short words (one syllable): cheap-cheaper-the cheapest, small-smaller-the smallest - two-syllable words ending in -y, -er, -le, -ow: easy-easier-the easiest , narrow-narrower-the narrowest - two-syllable words having the stress on the second syllable: polite-politer-the politest |
We use more, the most for: - longer words (two syllables or more): modern- more modern –the most modern, serious –more serious-the most serious, comfortable – more comfortable-the most comfortable
