EVS project “Intergeneration Dialogue. Part II” is continuation of the our 6-month EVS project which has been implemented in Donetsk (Ukraine) in January-June 2013.
Idea to work with different generations - kids, youngsters and elderly people – was rather new for Donetsk and in some way it was our experiment to do it. The idea is based on our experience which we got implementing our EVS projects according to which young volunteers work with children, providing outdoor and inside sport and games activities for children in youth clubs, as well as organizing different intercultural sessions, handmade activities sessions, so on. During the work we noticed that when we work with younger kids (4-8 years old), normally parents or the most often grandparents bring them to the youth club and they are waiting for their children during sessions our volunteers make for children. Then we decided to involve adults – especially seniors to activities with volunteers – physical activities sessions, language clubs, origami making sessions, tea-drinking sessions, and presentations about the countries.
Work with different generations gives young volunteers better understanding of Ukrainian people and culture, provides them with possibility to develop different skills.

Hosting organization – Donetsk Youth Debate Centre
Donetsk Youth Debate Centre is non-governmental, non-for profit, youth organisation. It was founded in 1997 under the initiative of school teachers, debate clubs trainers and young people of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The grassroots of the organisation was the Debate program financed by International Renascence Foundation (Soros Foundation). Nowadays the area of the Organisation’s activities is much wider but we still use debates as a method.
At present the Organisation works as an informational and methodical centre for thousands pupils and students; teachers of different educational establishments, including universities; leaders of civic organizations and wide circle of young people of Eastern Ukraine. Every year organisation implements about 5-8 educational or/and social projects, both on local, national and international level.
Organisation has its own office, where 4 people works on full-time regular base (director, 3 project coordinators, accountant), we have three more fully equipped working places which can be used by our local and international volunteers. DYDC works in close cooperation with about 20 schools and about 10 high educational establishments in Donetsk, providing them with informational, educational support, as well as with wide circle of educational and social establishments in Donetsk region and all over Ukraine.
Work of organisation is carried on both in the office (where we have working places and all necessary equipment) – preparation of the projects, preparing of all the necessary documentations, materials, conduction of the team meetings and meetings with youth – individual and in small groups (up to 15 people), and so-called “field work” – when in frame of our projects we conduct some educational or social activities – in school, youth centres, Universities or rented places – in case of bigger-scaled events.
Depends on project we implement we actively involve our local volunteers (about 10 people with whom we cooperate on regular base and about 20 more whom we involve recently in our activities), as well as use help of experts in different fields (professional psychologists, social workers, trainers, University professors) in case if project requires it.
Since 2004 we have been working actively on development the projects in frame of Youth and then Youth in Action Program (Action 2 and Action 3.1) – both as sending and hosting organization. Since 2008 we hosted more than 45 volunteers from all around Europe and have sent about 30 young Ukrainians for EVS in EU countries.
