§ 20. The central kazakhstan
The Karaganda area.
Territory - 428,0 thousand km2.
The population - 1346,4 thousand persons.
In territory of the Central Kazakhstan such European states, as England and Belgium, Holland and Denmark can take place simultaneously.
Economic-geographical position. An environment and natural resources. The central Kazakhstan is located in shallow hill droughty zone. The relief is non-uniform: in places lowlands, ennobled or hilly. Between these forms of the relief there are the granite hills which are the rests of high folded mountains.
The climate is sharply continental, summer is very hot, droughty, with dusty storms, is not enough stocks of fresh water.
The basic riches of edge are minerals: coal of the Karaganda basin and copper ores of Zhezkazgan, Konyrat and Sajak. Building materials are available in all areas of area. Besides, there is the iron ore, manganese, polymetals, rare metals, corundum, limestone, refractory clay.
In republic economy on the share of the Central Kazakhstan 100 % of coked coal, manganous ores, cast-iron and steel, 37 % of coal are necessary. Tungsten, molybdenum and republic copper are extracted also in this economic region. At Zhezkazgan and Balkhash factories the copper which does not have analogues in the world is melted, and copper ores are extracted in the open way.
In economic region it is known about 40 deposits of iron and manganese major of which are Aktau, Ushkatyn, Kamys, Karazhal, Karsakpaj, Balbyraun, Zhezdy and Najzatas.
There are the deposits of polymetals containing in the structure lead, copper and other nonferrous metals: Gulypat, Akshagyl, Kyzylespe, Alaajgyr, Karagajly, Zhajrem.
Rare metals. They are tungsten, silver, cadmium, bismuth, cobalt, mercury, molybdenum, vanadium, antimony, etc. Tungsten and molybdenum are extracted on such mines as Top Kajrakty, East Kajrakty, Konyrat and Karaoba. In process of increase in manufacture of these elements the term rare metals, becomes more and more conditional.
Nonmetallic minerals - the name of rocks and the minerals applied as chemical raw materials, building materials, technical and jewels, abrasives. Distinctive feature of nonmetallic minerals is complex character of their use. To nonmetallic minerals which in many cases are applied in the natural kind, asbestos concerns. The Karaganda area takes the second place on asbestos stocks. Deposits of industrial value are in area of heights of Eshkiolmes, Karsakpaj.
The population. Except Kazakhs in the Central Kazakhstan live Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, Tatars, Belorussians, Koreans, Moldavians, etc. Average population density makes 3,1 persons on 1 km2. East part is occupied seldom. The central part of region where the population is concentrated near to industrial knots is densely populated.
Industrial knot - group of the interconnected industrial enterprises in the certain territory, using resources (labour, raw etc.), transport constructions, building base of the given territory.
In the Central Kazakhstan the urban population (86 %) which most part lives in Karaganda-Temirtau, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash industrial knots prevails. Number of urban population has quickly grown as a result of increase in coal mining and connected with this resettlement of people from other regions.
The agricultural population on the scale of area is settled non-uniformly, the most part is concentrated in northern part of area, basically in areas with river networks.
