§ 12. The industry of building materials
The industry of building materials is closely connected with other branches of an economy. Building materials are used at the construction of factories, factories, apartment houses, objects of agriculture (silage holes, granaries, farms, etc.). In Kazakhstan there are large supplies of the materials necessary for building. These are deposits of granite, marble, gabbro-diabase, microquartzite, amazonite, labradorite, jaspers.
The industry of building materials is subdivided into three basic groups:
a. Extraction of mineral-building raw materials (sand, rubble, granite, marble, etc.), their preprocessing;
b. Manufacture of connecting materials (cement, lime, etc.);
c. Manufacturing of concrete and ferro-concrete designs and products, wall materials for building of various objects.
The core in the industry of building materials is manufacturing of the concrete and ferro-concrete products consisting of steel, armature, cement and concrete fillers which are of great importance at erection of various constructions. In Atyrau area make wall blocks of a shell rock. The walls which have been laid out by the shell rock do not need plaster. In the industry such building materials as granite, marble, sand, rubble, clay, plaster, asbestos, etc are intensively used. They are met in territory of all republic. Clay, plaster, asbestos are extracted in Northern, Southern, Central and East Kazakhstan, high-quality white clay - in Akmola area, quartz sand - in Akmola and Pavlodar areas. Stocks of natural asbestos are available in the largest in republic the Zhitikara deposit in Kostanai areas, in Atyrau area, plaster and granite - in Kaskelen. Limestone is extracted in Saztobe, marble - in Tekeli, Kordai, ceramzite clay - in vicinities of Almaty and Shymkent.
Considerable stocks of raw materials for cement manufacture are concentrated in the Karaganda, South Kazakhstan and East Kazakhstan areas, therefore large cement works here work. As a whole on republic some cement factories operate - in Shymkent, Saztobe, Karaganda, Ust Kamenogorsk, Semei and the biggest on capacity in Kazakhstan Aktau cement factory. Cement make from a waste of metal works, blast furnaces, thermal power stations, from limestone, chalk, sand, marl.
At Zhitikara asbestine industrial complex in Kostanai area slate manufacture is developed. In Taraz there is a tile factory, in Karaganda, Semei, Shymkent - the large enterprises asbestos cement manufactures. In Almaty works factory "Aigerim" on release of wall-paper which provides with the production not only Kazakhstan, but also Russia.
On local quartzite glass factories work in Akmola (Shortandy) and Atyrau (Kurmangazy) areas.
In connection with increase in volumes of road building in Atyrau area the factory on bitumen release will be constructed. Similar in Kazakhstan while is not present, and the republic receives bitumen from Russia and other countries.
The arrangement of Kazakhstan in the central part of continent Eurasia gives the chance to begin in the long term building of the highways having the international value: "Europe-Asia", "North-south". In connection with volume increase passenger and cargo transportation there will be a huge demand for bitumen. Release of similar production is connected with petrochemistry development.
