Great Britain

Great Britain is situated on two islands called the British Isles. The larger island is Great Britain, which consists of three parts: England, Scotland and Wales, and the smaller is Ireland, with Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the Ігіsh Republic is independent since 1949). London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom. The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast. Scotland is sіtuated to the north of England, its capital is Edinburgh. Wales is in the south of the country, the chief town there is Cardiff. Great Britain is a big country. Its population is more than fifty-sіx million. Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy. But the actual ruler of the country is the Parliament. The largest cities of Great Britain are London (7,880,760), Birmingham (1,101,990), Glasgow (960,527), Liverpool (705,310), Manchester (616,520), Sheffield (534,100), Bristol (518,640), Leeds (507,780), and Edinburg (467,986). English is the official language or the country. There are at least four nationalities: the English, the Scotts, the Welsh and the Irish and each has its own language. In some places in the countryside in Wales and Scotland the people never speak English; some of them do not even understand it.
