Употребление числительных

1. В английском языке для обозначения номеров домов, квартир, комнат, трамваев, троллейбусов, автобусов, рейсов самолетов, страниц, глав книг и т.д. употребляются количественные числительные. Традиционно на письме они обозначаются цифрами, стоящими после определяемого слова. Определяемое существительное в этом случае употребляется без артикля. Например:

Open the books at page 15. - Откройте книги на странице пятнадцать.

They are in Room 224. – Они в двести двадцать четвертой аудитории.

2. Количественные числительные также употребляются для обозначения номеров телефонов. При этом каждая цифра номера произносится отдельно. Ноль в телефонных номерах читается oh /qV/. Например:

My telephone number is 791 66 08 (seven-nine-one, double six, oh-eight)

3.Годы обозначаются количественными числительными и читаются следующим образом:

527 – five hundred and twenty seven;

1700 – seventeen hundred;

1705 – seventeen oh five или seventeen hundred and five;

1777 – seventeen seventy seven или seventeen hundred and seventy seven.

2000 – two thousand

2004 – two thousand and four

Слово year после обозначения года не употребляется, но иногда ставится перед ним в сочетании с предлогом in – in the year 2006 (two thousand and six).

4. Даты обозначаются порядковыми числительными. Oдной из особенностей чтения дат в английском языке является то, что они пишутся и произносятся по-разному. Например:

Пишем: Произносим:

4 January the fourth of January

4^th January

January 4 January the fourth

January 4^th

Если за датой следует год, это произносится следующим образом:

June 9^th, 1998 - the ninth of June, nineteen ninety-eight;

21 May, 2004 – the twenty first of May, two thousand and four.

5. Проценты читаются следующим образом:

25% - twenty-five per cent /pq'sent/; 70 % - seventy per cent.
