Presentation

Prepare your presentations on particular sports either on your own or in a group with others who share your interest. If a group prepares work on one sport, each member should talk about a different aspect of it. For example, one person could speak about the rules, another could tell the history of the sport and one could deal with facts and figures (matches played, records broken, championships, statistics...). Use diagrams, posters and examples of sports equipment to make the talks more interesting and informative. The rest of the class will evaluate your talk and the way you’ve presented it.

Role play

Work in two teams. In each team one person confesses that she/he is not happy about her/his stamina or she/he has weight problem. (Try to describe in detail how you feel). The group gives advice, each student advocates a different sport which would be beneficical in each case.

Organize a pressconference to discuss some problems in sport. There maybe the following participants.

  • The host of the pressconference.

  • A famous sportsman, who thinks that sport is destroying life, that being trained for the Olympics he has no time for any private life.

  • A coach, who thinks that sport makes real people in spite of the fact that it has dangers, that it is the process of growing up.

  • A famous sports star, who plays regularly and seriously, who is respected and very much liked in the national team, who has been a leading sportsman for a long time.

  • A journalist who plays the sport occasionally and mostly for fun and thinks that sport is running man's chances of getting a good profession.

  • A team doctor, who thinks that sportsmen are pressured in sport, that sport is a part of the growing‑up process, that it strengthens the heart and lungs, that children learn to overcome pain and real danger.

  • A foreign journalist, who was a professional sportsman and who is interested in the professional sport in the country.
