III. Citizenship/Residency Requirement
Although a United State Social Security Number (ssn) is not required to register for NYSTCE exams, we use the SSN to match the correct test score to the correct individual. Please be advised, you are required to have a US social security number before we can issue you a teaching certificate. United States citizenship or permanent residence status is required for Permanent and Professional certification only. For Initial certification, you must receive passing scores on the following New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE):
Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST);
Assessment of Teaching Skills-Written (ATS-W);
Content Specialty Test (CST) appropriate for your certificate area.
