1.5. Ten’s fate

David John McDonald was born April 18, 1971 in the small town of Bathgate in Scotland, in the family of priest. He grew up in the small town of Ralston, where his father was the head of a local church. His father really wanted his son to follow in his footsteps, and his mother dreamed that David would make a career in law and become a lawyer, but when he was only three years old, the boy told his parents that he loved the series "Doctor Who," and when he grew up he would become an actor and perform a major role there.

After high school, David joined the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and took the pseudonym 'David Tennant', because he was told that the Academy is already studying actor named David MacDonald.

The guy was really annoyed and when he got on the bus he began to thumb through a magazine, which ran a list of Pet Shop Boys. He took the name of one of the participants - Neil Tennant - because there are so many consonants.

After his graduation with a BA, David began an active theater life. He successfully auditioned and became a party to the Scottish theater group 7:84. His first professional work was the role of an assassin in the production «The Resistible Rise of Arturo Uiith». The second theater work “King Arthur” collected all possible criticisms that literally broke Tennant.

The situation changed for the better with the release of the series on television screens «Taking 'Over the Asylum», where David played a guy with depressive psychosis. "They needed someone who could play a completely crazy 19 year old guy" - said Tennant in an interview many years later. He could play, and he played the role which earned his first award from the BBC TV.

The beginning of the "success stories" on television and in film can be considered a film «LA Without a Map», where David played a shy young man, undertaker of Scotland, who fell in love with a young actress, and after her had moved across the border to Los Angeles. It was the role that denied all the claims of critics that Tennant was monotonous and could not play anyone but madmen.

Since 2004 David actively appeared on the series production of BBC, played in the musical comedy Blackpool, Giacomo Casanova in the eponymous TV series «Casanova», where he met with the screenwriter Russell T Davies. There were also other roles of Bartemius Crouch Jr. in the film «Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire», red Littlejohn in «Bright Young Things», Captain Gerald Kolpherst in the film «The Last September», but the film, which brought David Tennant worldwide celebrity series was «Doctor Who».

In 2004, when there was a talk about the revival of the series and a casting Tennant cast for the role of the Ninth Doctor, but the creators elected Christopher Eccleston. On March 31, 2005 Eccleston said he was not going to come back in the second season as the Doctor, and on the 16th of April 2005, the proposal of the Tenth Doctor came to David Tennant, and in July of the same year he started being shot.

First Tennant appeared in a new way in the regeneration stage (Series 1-13 "parting of the ways"), and then in the 7-minute’s special issue under the auspices of the campaign «Children in Need», shown Nov. 18, 2005. In 2007, he tried his hand as a director in the production of Doctor Who Confidential, entitled "Do You Remember the First Time?" and thought about how to shoot a series of "Do Not Blink."  The last series with David appeared in the winter of 2009. This special issue was the final fourth season entitled "The End of Time", which consisted of two parts. The first part was shown on December 25 at 19.30 on BBC One, and the second one - January 1, at the same time and on the same channel.

"Doctor Who" has had a great impact not only on the fate of the actor David. In 2005, he started a two-year affair with his partner on the series, the actress Sophia Myles. After they broke up, David began a new novel - with his future wife, actress George Moffett. They met in 2008, of course, on the set of "Doctor Who." Ironically, Georgia was the daughter of the actor Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor in the years 1981-1984, and David even had time to work with him on an episode of the show in 2007.

In 2010, David said goodbye to the role of Doctor Who. "I prefer to think about the role of the Doctor as of the presidency of the United States. Both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, which now will always be addressed as "Mr. President," I will always be Doctor "- joked David Tennant, when he was asked whether he regreted that he had had to leave the show.
