Objectives: to enrich the pupils' knowledge with the information about ways of having birthday parties, to involve them into the collaboration with each other; to enrich the pupils' vocabulary with new lexis, phrases how to express complements; to develop the skills of speaking, writing, scanning reading; to develop the pupils' communication skills and speech conjecture; to develop the skills of cooperation in a group; to bring up pupils' respect for each other's viewpoints, culture and language of the people they study; to work upon the ability to behave yourself in similar situations.
Equipment: textbook, blackboard, a poster with an invitation, pictures of a town's places of interest, a picture of a cake.

Greeting
(A teacher enters with a colorful bright box in his hands.)
T. Good morning, children. I'm glad to see you. You may sit down. Look, what I have. Try to guess what it is.
(Children give all possible answers.)
T. You are right. It's a magic box. Can you guess what there is inside?
(The teacher opens it and takes out the pictures depicting a cake with candles, balloons, greeting, cards, flowers, guests, presents, toy-clowns)
T. What can you see?

(The teacher sticks all the pictures to the black-board.)
T. Can you guess what holiday we're going to talk about today?

II.Warming up
T. When do you celebrate your birthday?
(Pupils name the dates of birth.)

T. What is the typical way of celebrating a birthday?
P2. Of course, it's a party. We invite guests to the party.
T. Let's train how to write an invitation in English.
(The teacher gives a sample of an invitation to the students.)
You have invitations, but there is something wrong with them. A postman jumbled the lines of the invitation and your task is to put everything in order.

T. We've learnt to write invitation cards. How do we greet our relatives or friends? Imagine that your partner has a birthday. Greet him(her).

II.Main part of the lesson
T. The next step at a birthday party is giving presents. I've got a magic box in which there are many things which can be given as present. Make mini-dialogues: one of you is haven a birthday party, another one is a guests. Find pleasant words and explain what your present will be useful for.
Example: Dear Tony, I've brought a photo frame for you. I know that you are fond of talking pictures so, I hope that this frame will emphasise your best work.
(Students act out similar mini-dialogues)
T. The most interesting part of parties is making fun that is singing songs, playing games, visiting interesting places, eating tasty food. Why don't we make fun as well?
(The teacher prepares a picture of a cake or a pizza cut in ten pieces. There is a task at the reverse side of each piece. Students take pieces one by one and carry out tasks.)
