Smuggling has a long history and probably dates back to the first time when duties were imposed in any form.

Smuggling, also known as trafficking, is the clandestine transportation of goods or persons. The unlawful bringing in or taking out of the country such articles as currency, jewelleries, precious stones and metals, antiques, explosives, drugs, weapons, firearms and ammunition etc, is considered smuggling.

There are various motivations to smuggle, most, but not all, of which are financial. These include the participation in illegal trade of drugs, illegal immigration, tax evasion etc.

Examples of non-financial motivations include bringing banned items past security checkpoints (such as airline security) or the removal of classified documents from a government or corporate office.

Nowadays law enforcement agencies of different countries struggle against a rising influx of immigrants. Actually, smuggling and violation of customs regulations have always been connected with the political and economic situations in the world.
