6. Have You Any Questions?

Mr Grant: Now that you've seen some of our machines, I suggest we should discuss the questions which your office put in this special note.

Volkov: I agree with you, Mr Grant. Many of those questions, though, have been answered by Mr Russel who seems to be an expert in all that concerns your production.

Mr Grant: Very well. Have you any questions which you would like to ask me as company director?

Volkov: I have one. Do you insist on the prices suggested by your party in the letter of the 18th of May?

Mr Grant: If I were the only owner of the company I would answer your question now. Anyhow I think it will depend on the volume of the whole contract. In other words, it'll depend on what you buy and how much you buy.

Volkov: I see.

7. I Consider Our Talks Very Useful

V olkov: Unfortunately, I can't say anything definite conceming the volume of the contract, but now I think I understand your position very well and I’ll certainly give my director a detailed report on our talks as soon as possible. I consider my talks here and my visit to the company to be very useful.

Mr Grant: I'm glad we understand each other. Business cooperation that's what makes for peace and good relations among nations. Don't you agree with me, Mr. Volkov?

Volkov: Yes. I'd say economic cooperation is the basis of peace, but on the other hand, peace makes such economic cooperation possible. That's why we should all work for peace.

Mr Grant: Well said. By the way, have you sen much of London during your stay here? Have you enjoyed your visit?

Volkov: Oh yes, very much.

Mr Grant: What would you say to having dinner with us members of the boards at the restaurant one day early next week, say, on Tesday?

Volkov: Thank you. I think I’ll consider your offer positively.

Mr Grant (laughing): You seem to know formal English very well.
