associate/assistant professor ~ доцент (the lowest rank of professor at an American university)

(to be given) a sabbatical — (получить) творческий отпуск (It is time off given to write and engage in research. university chancellor/provost—ректор университета (иногда "rector"). Note that "Provost", "chancellor", "President" and "rector" do not have the same meaning. They do not, though, fit nicely into Russian equivalents. "Provost" and "chancellor" are closer to "rector", the post of "Presi­dent" does not exist in Russia.

She was an undergrad at Barnard and he was a graduate teaching assis­tant at the university.

teaching assistantship = педагогическая практика (A job teaching lower-level courses, given to graduate students. The graduate student can be study­ing anything whatever, with no intention of going into teaching later.)
