  1. Перепишите следующие предложения; подчеркните в каждом из них глагол-сказуемое и определите его видовременную форму и залог. Переведите предложения на русский язык. В разделе (б) обратите внимание на перевод пассивных конструкций.

а) 1. The programs of the operating system hide the complexity of the computer from both programmers and ordinary users.

2. Early users of scientific computers wrote their own programs, coding them in Fortran and Algol.

б) 1. Operational data called programs are used to cause the computer to manipulate the user’s data in the required way.

2. In recent years, the spreadsheet, word processing and database programs have been elaborated and enlarged.

Internet Addiction

1. We all enjoy the advantages of the Internet and for many of us it is very helpful in work, education and communication. The Internet gives us many opportunities. It can be a great place to interact socially. We may use social networking to stay in touch with our friends and relatives. Using Web money you may save your time shopping on the Internet. People can make transactions, companies deal with customers using blogs and email. Internet advertising is really helpful for manufactures.

2. But for some people compulsive Internet use interfere with daily life, work and relationships. Such people feel more comfortable with their online friends than with their real ones, can’t stop themselves from playing games, gambling or just surfing the Internet.

3. Internet addiction is a behavioural disorder caused by the habitual feeding of a social or emotional need. People suffering from Internet addiction experience the same sensation of “tolerance” felt by other addicts. Although there are no set hours per day or number of messages sent, that indicate Internet addiction, but such people need more and more time to spend on the Internet and the Internet is often accessed more and for longer periods of time than it was intended.

4. People suffering from Internet addiction may show the following symptoms: anxiety, obsessive thinking about what is happening on the Internet, dreams about the Internet. If Internet access is limited or an online session is disrupted such people can feel panicky or depressed.

5. There are several tips how to break your Internet addiction. Set reasonable Internet use aims and stick to them. Take frequent breaks, at least 5 minutes each hour, and do some other activity. Change your usage patterns . If you usually access the Internet in the evenings, try to do that in the mornings. Try to find friends who don’t think so much about the Internet. All in all, stay connected to the offline world!
