Mr. Daniel Entin
Director
The Nicholas Roerich Museum
319 West 107th street
New York, NY,10025.
Dear Mr.Entin
I am writing on behalf of Dr. Joane Smith who is seeking access to the Nicholas Roerich Museum archives for research purposes.
Dr. Smith has been a Visiting Fellow at Washington State University during Academic Year 2011 under the Junior Faculty Development Program, funded by the US Department of State and administered by the ACTR/ACCELS on behalf of the Council for International Educational Exchange. Her home institution is the National Aviation University in Kiev, Ukraine, where she is a faculty member and department chair.
Dr. Smith research has centered on the 19th and 20th century literature of transcendentalist philosophers and authors. In addition to such major American authors as Dickinson, Emerson, Fuller, Thoreau, and Whitman, she also looks at the transcultural figures of Blavatsky and Roerich. At this time she has completed as much research at WSU as was possible with campus resources and services. She now plans to spend the remaining part of the fellowship pursuing archival and library research on the East Coast. This summer may be Dr. Smith once-in-a lifetime chance to work in the archives of the Nicolas Roerich Museum before returning to Ukraine. I hope the Museum will be able to grant Joane Smith access to its archival resources for this bona fide research project. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Marina
