Topic: Music in our life
Objectives:
teacher’s objectives
to revise the vocabulary on the topic;
to develop pupils’ skills of speaking and listening;
to develop pupils’ creative abilities, imagination, logical thinking;
to broaden pupils’ cooperation, friendship, mutual assistance, ability to work hard.
By the end of the lesson pupils’ should be able:
- to talk about music, its types, famous singers
and bands, some musical instruments;
- to create their own project concerning music;
- to discuss the role of music in their life;
- to understand the surprising power of music to heal.
Skills: speaking, listening.
Language content:
vocabulary concerning the topic;
grammar: usage of Tense System.
Material: a tape- recorder, cassettes, pictures, cards with the tasks for listening, a
word- map.
Procedure
I. The beginning of the lesson
Greeting
II Warming- up.
T: - What is music? What’s its role in our life?
(Possible answers)
P1: - Music is a language. People use it to express moods and feelings.
P2: - Some music is happy, and another is sad. Some music is serious, and another
can make people laugh.
P3: - Some music will help us feel relaxed and peaceful, whereas other types of
music may be stimulating to the brain, encouraging creativity and curiosity.
P4: - Some music promoter loving feelings while other sounds call for violence.
P5: - Music can also help us in our daily life. For example, you can prepare
yourself for important occasion such as an exam or a job interview by
humming an appropriate tune.
P6: - It can also act as pain reliever when you go to the dentist.
T: - The Oxford dictionary of current English gives us following definition.
Music- art of making pleasing combination of sounds in rhythms and
harmony.
III. Introducing the topic
T: - The topic of our today’s lesson is “Music in our life”.
Today we’ll speak about music, its role in our life, its types, famous singers
and bands, some musical instruments. We’ll listen to some styles of music,
some sections of orchestra and the record about the world- known British
band. By the end of the lesson you should be able to create your own project.
It will be a word- map of types of music, musical instruments and people who
has to do with music.
IV. Speaking
T: - At first we’ll speak about types of music. What kinds of music do you know?
(Possible answers: rock, rap, dance, classical, folk, reggae, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, etc.)
T: - How can you characterize them?
(Possible answers)
P1: - Chamber music is a kind of music written for a small group of instruments
and suitable for performing in a private or small hall.
P2: - Symphonic music is written for an orchestra.
P3: - Classical music is the one written with serious artistic intentions and having
an attraction that lasts over a long period of time.
P4: - Folk music is a kind of music of working or country people of a particular
nation or area, developed over many years and of which the original
songwriter or composer is not usually known.
P5: - Jazz is characterized by a strong beat and some free playing of each
musician, it was originated by black Americans.
P6: - Pop music is modern popular music of a simple kind with a strong beat and
not usually of lasting interest, liked especially by younger people.
P7: - Rap music is a type of pop music in which the words of a song are spoken
In time with music, with a steady beat.
P8: - Rock music is any of several styles of popular modern music, which are
based on rock ‘n’ roll, usually played on electric instruments.
P9: - Rock ‘n’ roll is a style of music that was popular in 1950s but is still played
now, which has a strong loud beat, repeats a few simple phrases and is
usually played on electric instruments. It was first made popular by Bill
Halley and Elvis Presley.
P10:- Blues is a slow, sad style of music which originates from the southern parts
of the USA.
P11:- Heavy Metal- a style based on “rhythm and blues”, but with the
instrumental amplified so they are extremely loud.

T: - Listen to 8 pieces of music and identify each type in your cards.

T: - Can you name the representatives of each types of music?

T: - So, what types of music do you know? Look at our word- map. Can you fill in
the first column of it- types of music? Go to the blackboard and write down the
types of music in it. Do it one by one.
T: - Each type of music has its own musical instruments. What musical instruments
do you know?
(Possible answers: guitar, piano, violin, drum, etc.)
T: - Look at the slide. Match the words with the pictures.
