29 Spelling Arrangement
Spelling
- Abbreviations = in this case, using initial letters only = ensure economy or point out to a specific style of discourse: ASAP (= as soon as possible in official letters, e.g.)
Also can be used humorously (S.P.E.W. for “Society for Promotion of Elfish Welfare” from “HP & the Goblet of Fire”, in Rus. = Г.А.В.Н.Э. - Гражданская Ассоциация Восстановления Независимости Эльфов, here also - pun) or ironically
- No spaces btw words: may increase the rhythm, intentionally confuse, show indignation (“I-told-you-a-thousand-times-to-stay-away-from-our-house!!!”)
- Distorted spelling: may mean the speaker’s lack of education (“Pygmalion”: “dunno” = don’t know, “awy” = away, “ye-oo” = you); or point to informality & quick tempo of speech
4) Graph. arrangements in poetry & prose (= graphic imagery)
Graphic imagery is the division of a text into paragraphs or verse stanzas, notched (неровные) lines or shaped poems. The term “shaped verse” speaks for itself: the lines of a verse are placed in such a way that it has a shape of some figure: a cross, a star, a heart, a triangle, etc. The form coincides with the topic and content.
FUNNEL (воронка)
Here is a little poem ... well, maybe it's not so little, but it
certainly is a poem ... although, come to think of it,
this doesn't really rhyme, so maybe it's not
a poem either; but anyway, here it is,
and as you can see, it is of course
funnel shaped, and before too
long, quickly comes to
the point, and right at
about this place
down here
at the
end
