XII. Translate into English

1. Вона зачинила вікно, щоб діти не застудилися.

2. Вона купила б годинник, але магазин був зачинений.

3. Добре було б, коли б вона прийшла додому.

4. Мені хотілося б, щоб ти дав його мені.

5. Мері боялася, щоб він не ввійшов.

6. Надвечір він мав такий поганий вигляд, що вона порадила йому лягти в ліжко.

7. Я знав, що сьогодні щось трапиться.

8. Якби не дощ, ми працювали б сьогодні в саду.

9. Якби ти випадково зустрів її де-небудь, ти міг би поїхати з нею.

10. Якби я побачив його завтра, я б сказав йому про це.

I. Give four forms of the following irregular verbs. Consult the table of irregular verbs if necessary

II. Put verbs in brackets in the correct form

1. When we were at school as children we were … (make/wear) indoor shoes inside the school building.

2. The teachers would never … (let us/wear) our outdoor shoes at all.

3. They … (make us/change) in the changing rooms from the moment we entered the building.

4. I'd never known teachers … (be) more strict about any other school rule.

5. The trouble was that my indoor shoes really … (make me/suffer) because they were so tight.

6. ‘… (let/expand) our shoes!’ a fellow sufferer suggested. He had had a brilliant idea. We put plastic bags inside our shoes and poured water into the bags. We sealed the bags carefully and put our shoes into the freezer.

IV. Paraphrase the sentences as in the model

6. They didn't know your address, so they couldn't send you a letter.

7. We can't get tickets, so we shan't go to the circus.

8. You didn't see him yesterday, so you couldn't tell him about it.
