Задание 1. Прочитайте и переведите текст:

My Future specialty

I study at North Caucasus State Technical University. I am a second-year student of the Food Products Biotechnology Department. My specialization is Food Biotechnology. The faculty of Food Products Biotechnology was established in 1996. The lectures are read by highly qualified professors, among them there are even the members of Russian Academy of Science. This specialty is of great importance for the national economy of our country. Practically, there is no other branch of industry that will do without food industry.

All the graduate-training departments have the opportunity of training full-time and part-time post-graduates of the highest qualification. The students of our department have the opportunity to study in well-equipped laboratories. Students and post-graduates of the biotechnology are engaged in researches of the main constituents of nutrition of the future generations. Not only post-graduates and young scientists take part in this research work, but the fifth-year students.

To achieve this research work there is a big library, where we can improve our knowledge in this specialty. Our students also take part in the national and international conferences and tell their mates about the results of their researches. After graduating from the university I would like to work as an engineer-technologist in the field of food industry. I hope that I’ll be able to become a highly qualified and experienced specialist in this field and I will manage to put my erudition and skills into practice.

It is not an easy task to study at this specialty, because biotechnology combines its own researches with that of other branches of science. Biotechnology occupies the intermediate stage between biology and biochemistry. It is a well-known fact that the matter of synthesis and production of artificial protein is a key-point question of the

research work at the scientific research institutes.

The theory basis in biotechnology is already developed, but in practice there are no favourable prerequisites for the rapid transition the theory into practice. However, today people are conscious about the question how to feed the growing population in future and the aim of biotechnologist is to solve this problem here and now. The main tasks for food industry are:

– to use nutritious products of vegetable and animal origin as efficiently as possible in order to produce tasty, useful, various and nourishing food;

– to secure the food supply for a global population that has now passed the four billion mark and is still growing fast.

The aim of food processing engineers is to provide the population of the country with food products within the shortest possible time, to achieve this we should design and develop processing equipment and procedures for the processing, storage, packaging and handling of food products.

It’s not easy to study at our faculty but we do it with pleasure.
