A Working –Day
Boris Ivanov is a worker. He works at a large factory. It is the largest factory in our town. Every morning Boris gets up at six o’clock. He shaves, washes, dresses, reads his newspaper and at a quarter past seven, he has breakfast, then he leaves the house. He goes to the factory by tram. It is not far from his house.
At five minutes to eight all the workers and engineers are at their working-places, at eight they begin working. Boris is an inventor. Many of his inventions are well-known. He is a very good worker. At noon they have an interval for lunch. Boris has his lunch at twenty minutes past twelve. He goes to the factory club. This club is the best in the town. It has two reading-rooms and a large library. The library has thousands of books. You see many newspapers and magazines there. On each shelf you can see many books. Eight girls work in the library and in the reading-rooms. They all know Boris. He often goes there. He likes to read new magazines after lunch. Boris sits down at a little table and starts reading a magazine. At ten minutes to one he leaves the reading-room, goes back and starts working again. At five the working –day is over. Boris drinks some tea or milk and eats some bread and butter and cheese. Then he goes back to the club. He learns English there. He knows German. He does not know English so well as he knows German: he speaks German a little but he does not speak English: he only reads easy English texts and translates easy sentences into Russian. The lesson is over at a quarter to seven. Boris leaves the club and goes home. He has some English books in his bag. His wife knows English. She likes to read English books. Boris gets them for her at the library of his factory.
