Exercise 9

1. I know for sure that if I had more time, I would always take empty bottles to a bottle bank. Unfortunately, I'm short of time and there are only a few bottle banks in our neighbourhood.

2. When the last animal of a certain species dies, this species becomes extinct.

3. I'm afraid that by the end of the decade the population of Amour tigers will have been driven to extinction.

4. Environmental pollution poses a threat to the life of many species of animals.

5. I wish there were less household waste. If so, our streets and yards wouldn't be littered so much.

6. At present many animals are deprived of their natural habitats because urban development reduces rural areas.

7. The rhinoceros, one of the species of animals on the earth facing extinction, is still being hunted in Africa.

8. Scientists believe that in the near future many countries will be using nuclear power instead of traditional forms of energy generated from fossil fuels.

9. But for the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station, Ukraine wouldn't be suffering from fuel shortage now.
