Exercise 11

  1. If you cannot work out the meaning of a new word, look it up in a dictionary.

  2. My younger sister's in a class of her own / top of the class. She's very diligent and has always got her nose in a book.

  3. He can't have failed his maths exam. - Unfortunately, he did. He mightn't have prepared well and now he has to resit it.

  4. I shouldn't have taken this optional subject. Because of it I've fallen behind with my course project in macroeconomics. - Don't worry. You still have time to catch up with the others.

  5. The walls in the school's corridor are decorated with the students' artwork and much of it was done by the primary school students.

  6. He didn't have to go over his microeconomics notes again. He was able /managed to remember all the main formulas at his first attempt.

  7. To keep up with your classmates you should prepare for classes thoroughly, do a lot of revision and try not to miss school.

  18. In our new school all the students have to wear a uniform. - Have you got one? - Yes, I've just had it made. - Is it nice? - Yes, very nice, only the skirt's a bit long. I'll have to have it shortened.

  19. Computers are believed to become the main source of collecting and presenting information in class.

  20. After graduating from university graduates are presented with degrees. The graduation ceremony is held once a year. It's a grand event in the life of a graduate. They can invite their relatives and friends to attend it.
