19.Stylistic syntax.

General notion of stylistic syntax.

Syntactical stylistic devices based on compression (economy): ellipsis, absence of auxiliary elements; aposiopesis, break-in-narration; nominative sentences; asyndeton, the gap-sentence link, apokoinu constructions and their stylistic effect.

Syntactical stylistic devices based on redundancy of language means: syntactical repetition (complete and partial parallelism); lexico-syntactical repetition (anaphora, epiphora, symploca, framing, anadiplosis (catch-repetition), chain-repetition, chiasmus (reversed parallel constructions)); syntactical tautology (prolepsis), tautology in appended statements; polysyndeton.

Syntactical stylistic devices based on redistribution (unusual arrangement of the components of the utterance): inversion (grammatical, stylistic (partial, complete)), detachment, anacoluthon, suspense (climax), enumeration.

Syntactical stylistic devices based on transposition: rhetorical questions (quasi-negative, quasi-affirmative, quasi-imperative, quasi-interrogative), represented speech; questions in the narrative, litote.

20.Stylistic morphology.

Word-building expressive means. Synonymy of different morphemes. Expressivity of affixes.

Variability of use of morphological categorial forms. The notion of grammatical transposition and its stylistic value.

Grammatical transposition of nouns within the category of number, of gender, of case. Personification. Depersonification.

The category of determination. Article and its stylistic function. Absence of articles.

The grammatical category of person. Pronouns (personal, demonstrative) and their stylistic functions.

Verb. The category of tense (use of present tenses for future actions; historical present; use of continuos forms for emotional colouring; use of archaic forms; use of ungrammatical present and past forms).

Adjectives. Substantivization. Non-standard degrees of comparison.

Adverbs and their stylistic function.
