Grammar in use

Simple Passive Voice (Revision).

Paired conjunctions both, both ... and, either ... or, neither ... nor… .

Exercise 13. Read and translate the pairs of sentences. Define the grammar differences between them. Make the sentences negative and interrogative.

  1. The head is connected with the trunk by the neck.

  2. The neck connects the head with the trunk.

  1. The doctor admitted the patient to the in-patient department.

  2. The patient was admitted to the in-patient department.

    1. The doctor will examine the patient tomorrow.

    2. The patient will be examined by the doctor tomorrow.

Exercise 14. Read and translate the sentences. Define the tense of the predicates

  1. In the first term medical students are taught basic theoretical subjects.

  2. The health of the patient was resorted rapidly.

  3. New methods of medical examination will be introduced in many hospitals.

  4. The chest is divided by the breastbone into two parts on each side of which there are seven ribs.

  5. The treatment of the patient with paralysis of the leg muscles was started.

  6. These data will be applied in practice in the nearest future.

  7. The patient was examined by the surgeon and then the operation was performed.

  8. The treatment will be changed to restore the patient’s health as soon as possible.
