Megan Stammers and maths teacher Jeremy Forrest found in France
Missing schoolgirl Megan Stammers has been found alive and well in France with teacher Jeremy Forrest, who has been arrested by police on suspicion of child abduction.
Sussex police said in a statement: 'Missing Megan Stammers and Jeremy Forrest have been located safe and well in France.
'They were found today at 12:15pm UK time. Mr Forrest has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and Megan has been taken into protection.
'The information which led to them being located came as a direct result of media coverage in France.'
Police are believed to have located the pair in Bordeaux and are now arranging for their return to the UK.
The pair had been missing since September 21 when they were last seen boarding a ferry to Calais.
There had been some speculation over what country the couple had reached, with police circulating images of them to authorities all over Europe.
Despite the claim that the pair were found thanks to French media coverage, the case did not make headline news in the country's main publications.
The news follows Megan's stepfather's emotional plea for the 15-year-old to pick up the phone and let her family know she was OK, after police issued an arrest warrant for her maths teacher Mr Forrest.
Martin Stammers told Crimewatch last night that the family were 'in pieces' as a week passed since the 15-year-old fled to the continent with her teacher on a cross channel ferry.
'It's awful, not only for me and Danielle [her mother] but for the family as a whole,' he said.
'Her close family, grandparents, close friends, it's just devastating. We're just in pieces.'
In a direct appeal to Megan, Mr Stammers said: 'Megan if you're seeing this, just pick up the phone and ring your mum.'
Asked if Megan was in trouble for running away, he said: 'By no means. We just want her back in our arms.'

David Cameron pays tribute to seven Britons killed in Nepal plane crash
Seven Britons on a trekking excursion to Mount Everest are believed to have perished in a plane crash in Nepal that claimed the lives of 19 people.
The Brits are reported to have died along with five Chinese nationals and seven people from Nepal, which included crew members.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was currently trying to confirm the number of UK victims on the plane.
A spokeswoman said: 'I can confirm that there were British national fatalities.
'The embassy in Kathmandu is in contact with the Nepalese authorities and the British ambassador has already been to the hospital where we understand the bodies were taken.'
Speaking during his visit to Brazil, prime minister David Cameron described the crash as 'deeply tragic'.
'It is an absolutely horrific incident and obviously I feel for the families concerned,' he said.
'We are doing everything we can to inform the next of kin. I know our ambassador in Nepal is on the case and on the spot dealing with it.
'Obviously we will have to find out exactly what happened. It is a deeply, deeply tragic case.'
The Sita Air twin-engine propeller plane, which was headed towards Mount Everest gateway Lukla, didn’t make it far after take-off, crashing at Manohara River near Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.
According to witnesses the aircraft burst into flames and plummeted into a field.
An official said the plane looked like it was trying to turn back to the airport when it went down.
Police retrieved the bodies after firefighters had managed to bring the fire under control.
Seven foreign climbers were also killed on Sunday when an avalanche hit a Nepal peak.
The weather was reported as being clear when the plane went down.
