How old was Eddie?
Why did he come to the drugstore? Why was he surprised by Mr. Keen’s offer?
What did Mr. Keen place on the desk in front of him?
What for did the pharmacist ask Eddie into his office?
What caused Eddie’s asthma attack?
Did Eddie understand any of Mr. Keen’s explanations?

Do you understand Mr.Keen’s motives? Was it worthwhile enlightening the boy? Do you share Mr.Keen’s conviction that Eddie was suffering because the illness was “in his head”?
Mr.Keen blamed Eddie’s mother and her doctor for Freddie’s illness, didn’t he? Do you agree with him? What do you think of the woman? Give her character sketch. What conclusion can you draw about the relationship between Eddie and his mother?
