London
is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the centre
of
the Commonwealth. It lies on the river Thames. The population of
London is over
8 million people. The area is 1, 579 square kilometres.
London
is more than two thousand years old. The city was once the largest
industrial, commercial and political centre of a great empire. Now it
is the United
Kingdom's main centre of population, commerce and culture and the
largest
port in England.
London
is a city of contrasts. The West End is the richest part with its
beautiful
streets, fashionable shops restaurants and hotels. The East End is
the district
where the poor live. The City is the heart of London, ft is the
commercial
and business centre. Here the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral,
Westminster
Abbey are situated here. London is famous for Trafalgar Square, the
British Museum and many other places of interest.
Today
London is a great one of the most beautiful cities in the world with
its
parks, ancient buildings, museums and libraries.
