I. The infantry
The
regiment. Regiments were made up of three battalions and had: 1
Colonel, 1 Lieutenant-Colonel, 4 Majors, 5 Captains, 14 Lieutenants
of
which 1 Quartermaster and 1 Pay Officer, 15 Second-Lieutenants, 13
Cadets and 420 Non-Commissioned Officers, 660 Grenadiers and 1315
musketeers in time of war.
The
musicians had 41 Drummers, 8 fifes for the Grenadiers. The Medical
Service numbered 19 people. To which be added 6 scribes, 19
armourers, 18 smiths or carpenters, 43 wagonners, 1 Veterinary
Surgeon, 1 Judge
and 3 provosts. Combattants were: 53 officers, 420 NCOs and about 2
000
soldiers. But grenadier regiments were formed apart from the others
and
a part of the regiment was left at the depot. At the Moskova, only
two battalions
of musketeers were present in each regiment, except for the Guard
which had three.
Indeed,
like
in Prussia, the Grenadiers were regrouped in battalions with
companies coming from the other regiments of the division and made
up grenadier regiments, often elite divisions, like the Voronzov
Division, for example. Normal divisions had 4 regiments of
musketeers, 2 regiments of jiigers and a company of heavy and two
companies of light artillery. A regiment
of hussars was attached to a division or replaced bv regular
Cossacks.
