THE SEASONS IN RUSSIA

Winter, spring, summer and autumn are the seasons of the year.

December, January and February are winter months. The weather is cold. Usually it snows. The days are short and the nights are long. You can see snow everywhere. The rivers and lakes freeze and we can go skating and skiing.

The spring is a very nice season. The weather is fine, it is warm. There are many green trees in the streets, in the parks and in the yards. Sometimes it rains, but as usual the sun shines brightly.

My favourite season is summer. I have Holidays in Russia in summer. The days are long and the nights are short. There are many green trees and nice flowers in the parks. The pupils don't go to school.We have got the longest day and the shortest night of the year. It is hot and the sun shines brightly, the sky is blue and you can't see any clouds in the sky.

September, October, November are autumn months. It is cool. The weather is changeable. It often rains. The days become shorter and the nights become longer. The birds prepare to fly to the South. One can see yellow, red, brown leaves everywhere. It is time for gathering in the harvest.

Clothes

People need different clothes for different weather and different situations. At home I like to wear my favourite clothes: T-shirts and jeans or sport costumes. But at school we wear uniforms. The girls put on skirts or dresses and white blouses. The boys wear white shirts too and suits.

In summer when it is hot I wear light clothes: T-shirts and sandals. When the weather is cold I put on warm clothes: jeans and trousers, sweaters and jackets, overcoats and caps, high boots and mittens. Our winter is very cold so we need warm clothes. When it is rainy I put on a raincoat and take an umbrella. In spring when it is warm I put on an overcoat and a scarf, gloves, spots we need shoes, jeans and jackets. Every girl or boy has fashionable clothes for special days. I like to choose such clothes in the shop and wear it as if I’m a princess.

Holidays in Russia

There are many holidays in our country. They are: New Year's Day, Christmas, Women's Day, Victory Day, May Day and others.

I like New Year's Day, it is my favourite holiday. The 1st of January is a winter holiday and now it is the first day of the New Year. The 1st of January is in the middle of winter. The weather is usually fine and there is a lot of snow everywhere. As the 1st of January is a holiday I don't go to school and my parents don't go to work. We usually have got a very interesting New Year's party at school. We have got it on the 28th or 29th of December.

Our family prepares for this holiday. My father buys and brings home a beautiful New Year's tree. I like to decorate it with toys, little colored lights, sweets and a beautiful star on the top.

My mother and grandmother prepare our holiday supper and lay the table. I make a cake. All the members of our family clean the flat before this nice holiday and then each of us try to dress well. We like to see the New Year in at home with our relatives. They come to see us at 11 o'clock in the evening.

At 12 o'clock we are sitting at the table and we are glad to see the New Year in. We say, "Best wishes for the New Year!" I hope that next year will be better than the last one. We don't go to bed till morning; we watch TV, dance, eat tasty things and make jokes. I enjoy this holiday very much.
