Последовательность действий при переводе спецтекста:

1. Сделайте черновой вариант перевода.

2. Прежде, чем искать слово в словаре, выясните, какой частью речи оно является.

Например:

• He plays well.

Plays – глагол, сказуемое от инфинитива “to play” – играть.

• His plays are well – known.

Plays – существительное, подлежащее от “a play” – пьеса.

• Furniture shop.

Furniture – существительное, определение к существительному shop – мебельный магазин.

3. При выборе значения слова или выражения исходите как из общего содержания текста, так и из контекста.

4. Переведите текст по предложениям, следя за логической связью. Если понимание (перевод) предложения вызывает затруднение, рекомендуется определить в нем сказуемое, которое составляет смысловой центр предложения, занимает относительно постоянное место и обычно имеет определенные формальные признаки.

Формальные признаки сказуемого

1. Окончания глаголов: -s - - ed (или вторая форма неправильных глаголов) 2. Вспомогательные глаголы: am, is, are was, were do, does, did have, has, had shall (should) will (would) 3. Модальные глаголы: can, could, may, might, must, should, ought to 4. Эквиваленты модальных глаголов: have (has, had) to am(is, are) to was (were) to

1. Прочитайте и письменно переведите весь текст. Выполните следующие за ним упражнения.

LONDON

1. London is the capital of Great Britain. It is situated on the river Thames. It is one of the oldest and largest cities in the world. Its population is about 9 million people.

2. London is grand and attractive. It has links with the past. Its old customs and traditions have survived and even the types of people. They are a strange mixture of past and present, of old – fashioned and very modern.

3. London consists of several parts and they are all very different from each other and seem to belong to different towns and epochs. There is the West End and the East End, Westminster and the City. The City is not only the centre of business; it is the birthplace of London.

4. In the West End there are many famous museums, theatres, palaces and parks. The British Museum is one of the most famous museums in the world. It contains the most important collection of things from Greece and Egypt, including the famous Egyptian mummies. The West End includes Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and the main shopping areas of Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street.

5. Westminster is the historic, the governmental part of London, across the road from Westminster Abbey is Westminster Palace or the Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament built in the 19-th century, are the place where the English government sits. The Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament is famous for its big hour bell, known as “Big Ben”. Buckingham Palace is the home of Britain’s Kings and Queens.

6. The East End grew with the spread of industries to the east of the City. It is one of those areas of London where people from abroad have come to find work. The East End is especially famous as the centre of the clothing industry in London.
