Сходство тиолов и катионов тяжелых металов заключается в том, что их соли (меркантаны) характеризуются малой растворимостью. Это свойство обеспечивает прочное связывание биометалов с белками. Но соли Pb, As, Hg, Cb отличаются высокой токсичностью. (Люизит) при отравлении тяжелыми металами противоядием служат тиолы,содержащие более 1группы SH обеспечивающие уменьшение концентрации иона метала в результате обр-я нерастворимого сульфида (антиплоизит).
