Ex. 6. Role play the dialogues. Using the examples below, invite your partner to practice English conversations that tell about your daily routine.

Travelling to the University

A: How do you travel to the University?

B: When my classes begin early, I prefer to go to the University by bus or by trolley-bus not to miss my first lecture.

A: Do you live far from the bus-stop?

B: Yes, rather far. It takes me about 5 or 8 minutes to get there. That’s why when the weather is fine I like going to the University on foot.

A: But why?

B: Firstly, you don’t depend on the busy traffic. Secondly, it’s not always pleasant to travel on a crowded bus. And besides it’s a good way to keep fit. By the way, it takes me about 45 minutes to walk to the University. It’s almost the same if I go by bus or by trolley-bus during the rush hours.

At Lunch Time

A: Shall we go to the refectory?

B: Not this time. We’ll be late for the seminar, I’m afraid. Let’s have a snack in the classroom. I have some apple pies and bananas and you can bring something to drink. Buy some juice in the drinks machine on the ground floor.

A: Ok. That’s a good idea!

A: Mum, can you give me some pocket money for lunch?

B: Of course. How much do you need?

A: I guess, 50 rubles will do.

B: But is it enough to eat well at the refectory?

A: Well, it's not enough if you take roast meat, chicken or fish. But I can have some soup, salad or porridge (it is usually cooked well), a cup of tea with sugar and lemon and one or two round pies.

A: When do you usually go to the refectory?

B: We go to the refectory during the long break. Sometimes we ask out teachers to finish the class 5 minutes earlier. Or there will be a long queue in the refectory and you won't find your favourite dishes on the menu. Besides, you will be late for the third class. Our Dean is very strict and we try not to make her angry and violate discipline at the faculty.

My Room

A: Do you have a room of your own?

B: Yes, I do. I've moved into it recently. It's not very big but cosy. And I have everything I need: a new comfortable bed, a writing-desk with drawers and bookshelves, a wardrobe and a laptop. I can do everything there and decorate the way I like.

A: You are lucky. How I envy you! As for me, I share a room with three other students. It's not very convenient, especially in the mornings and when you go to bed in the evening. You mustn't switch on the lights if you get up earlier than the others. And you have to do everything in darkness. And there are girls who sit up late and it's very difficult to fall asleep with the lamp switched on.
