Суб'єктний дієприкметниковий комплекс (The Subjective Participle Complex)
Суб'єктний дієприкметниковий комплекс складається з двох частин. Перша частина комплексу –– іменник у загальному відмінку або особовий займенник у називному відмінку. Друга частина –– дієприкметник (Present Participle), що виражає дію, яку виконує особа або предмет, позначені першою частиною комплексу:
A plane was heard flying high in the sky. Було чути, як високо в небі летів літак.
Суб'єктний дієприкметниковий комплекс вживається переважно з дієсловами, які виражають сприймання за допомогою органів чуття (to see, to hear, to feel, to watch, to notice, to observe у пасивному стані) і виконують у реченні роль присудка, який ставиться між першою і другою частиною комплексу.
З дієсловами to consider, to believe вважати; to find знаходити іноді вживається суб'єктний дієприкметниковий комплекс з Past Participle:
The work was considered finished. Роботу вважали закінченою.
У реченні суб'єктний дієприкметниковий комплекс виконує функцію складного підмета.
Незалежний дієприкметниковий комплекс (The Absolute Participle Complex)
В українській мові підрядне обставинне речення (наприклад, часу або причини) може бути замінене дієприслівниковим зворотом, якщо в головному і підрядному реченнях підмет той самий, хоч в одному з них він може бути виражений іменником, а в другому –– відповідним особовим займенником.
В англійській мові заміна обставинного підрядного речення зворотом з Participle можлива і тоді, коли в головному і підрядному реченнях підмети різні.
У незалежному дієприкметниковому комплексі можуть вживатися всі форми Participle. У реченні незалежний дієприкметниковий комплекс виконує функції обставини (часу, причини, способу дії, умови):
The rain having stopped, we went home. Коли дощ ущух, ми пішли додому.
The day being very fine, she went for a walk. Оскільки день був дуже гарний, вона пішла на прогулянку.
Weather permitting, we'll spend our day off in the forest. Якщо дозволить погода, ми проведемо вихідний день у лісі.
Незалежний дієприкметниковий комплекс може вводитись прийменником with. Такий комплекс вживається у функції обставини способу дії або супровідних обставин і перекладається на українську мову здебільшого самостійним реченням або дієприслівниковим зворотом:
She was sitting on the ground, with her head and one arm lying on a chair. Вона сиділа долі, а голова її і одна рука лежали на стільці.
He was standing, with his arms crossed and his head bent. Він стояв, схрестивши руки і опустивши голову.
