Developed by James Asher in the 1970s, TPR is a language teaching method built around the coordination of speech and action. TPR is linked to the developmental psychology, learning theory, and humanistic pedagogy. It is based on the belief that the fastest, least stressful way to achieve understanding of any target language is to follow instruction uttered by the instructor without native language translation.
In psychology, it is linked to the trace theory of memory, which holds that the more often or the more intensively a memory connection is traced, the stronger the memory association will be and the more likely it will be recalled. Retracing can be done verbally such as rote repetition or in association with motor activity.
In addition, in a developmental sense, Asher claims that speech directed to young children consists primarily of commands, which children respond to physically before they begin to produce verbal responses.

Silent Way One of language teaching method which involves the students in learning process. When the teacher explains the material the students are silent ( concentrate - brainstorm). The Silent Way is a method of language teaching originated in the early 1970s and introduced by caleb gattegno in his book : teaching foreign language in school. He is well known for the use of colored sticks called Cuisenaire rods and for his approach to the teaching of initial reading in which sounds are taught by colors. The SW is characterized by its focus on discovery, creativity, problem solving and the use of accompanying materials.Disadvanteges of SW: The SW is often criticized of being a harsh method; the material used in this method will certainly fail to introduce all aspects of language.other materials will have to be introduced.Advantages: creativity; discovery; increase in intelligent potency and long term memory.SW aim is being near native language proficiency and good pronunciation.
