Safety Procedures
• International Regulations:
VMS Chemical Tanker Manual makes reference to several of these regulations. The Master also has many of the complete works and others are found in the Ship’s Library. The SMO / VCG is also available to provide assistance if required. In some cases, the Agent will provide local regulatory information.
Safety Procedures
•Port and Terminal Regulations:
These are commonly handed to the Master and / or Chief Officer upon arrival.
These publications contain port/terminal specific information which the ship must comply with while in Port & during Cargo Ops.
Safety Procedures
• MSDS:
As we noted in the “Safety Information” presentation, the MSDS contain safety guidelines, such as for exposure or spill.
This is discussed in detail within another sub topic

Note: if you are unable to find specific information you require you must stop and seek Assistance.

Safety Procedures
It is always better to consult SMT/SMO rather than to have an accident!
We never want the above to happen aboard any of our Ships
IMDG CODE
The objective of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code is to:
•Enhance the safe transport of dangerous goods
•Protect the marine environment
•Facilitate the free unrestricted movement of dangerous goods
IMO
What is the IMO?
IMDG CODE
To supplement the principles laid down in the SOLAS and MARPOL Conventions, the IMO developed the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
The IMDG code contains detailed technical specifications to enable dangerous goods to be transported safely by sea.
The IMDG Code became mandatory for adoption by SOLAS signatory states from 1st January 2004.
IMDG CODE
The IMDG Code is based on an internationally agreed system which:
•Groups dangerous goods together based on the hazards they present in transport (classification).
•Contains the dangerous goods in packaging's / tanks which are of appropriate strength and which will prevent the goods escaping.
•Uses hazard warning labels and other identifying marks to identify dangerous goods in transport.
