Eating Out

When Belarusian people want to eat out they can choose from a wide range of eating places. There are lots of restaurants, cafes, pizzerias, pubs and fast food restaurants which are very popular with young people and families. More and more people nowadays choose Chinese or Japanese takeaways. Prices in our restaurants and cafes are rather high, that’s why eating out in our country is not as popular as in the US or Great Britain.

My favourite place to eat out is pizzeria “Tempo”. I like this place very much. The waiters and waitresses there are always friendly and ready to help. There are lots of dishes on the menu. The servings are rather large and the food is always delicious. I usually order a pizza and some fizzy drinks to go with it. My mum likes to eat desserts there. I recommend this place to everyone.

When we eat out in cafes, pizzerias or fast food restaurants we tend to select food for taste, not value. That’s why we often go for dishes that are not very healthy for us, for example hamburgers, chips, crisps and so on. But eating too much junk food can cause serious problems with our health such as putting on weight, diabetes and many others.

What’s important is what you eat regularly - not just in a single meal. So if you eat a meal that has only junk food in it, try to balance it with healthier foods the rest of the day and the next. You should also be very careful with fizzy drinks. Colas and other fizzy drinks contain a lot of sugar; they can also cause problems with calcium in your body.

There are two points to remember when eating out: Our bodies need variety. Go for meals that have a balance of low-fat meat, fruits and vegetables. And secondly, watch your serving sizes. Don’t eat too much.

If you start making healthy choices now, your body will thank you later. And the good news is you don't have to eat perfectly all the time. It's OK to go on junkies every once in a while, as long as your diet is generally good.
