16.2.2 Переклад суб'єктного інфінітивного комплексу на українську мову

Речення з суб'єктним інфінітивним комплексом на українську мову перекладаються здебільшого складнопідрядними реченнями. Переклад слід починати з присудка, який в українській мові перетворюється на неозначено-особове або безособове головне речення. Перша частина комплексу (іменник або займенник), яка є підметом англійського речення, стає підметом підрядного додаткового речення, а інфінітив перекладається особовою формою дієслова, що стає присудком підрядного речення:

His father is said to work at this plant.	Кажуть, що його батько працює на цьому заводі.
Не was supposed to work Sunday afternoons and evenings.	Передбачалося, що він буде працювати по неділях після полудня і вечорами.
Не seemed to be looking for words.	Здавалося, що він добирає слова.

Речення з дієсловом-присудком, що означає наказ, прохання, дозвіл, примус, а також з дієсловами to consider, to believe, to think, перекладаються на українську мову простими неозначено-особовими або безособовими реченнями, а інколи й простими особовими реченнями:

The pupils were allowed to use dictionaries.	Учням дозволили (дозволялося) користуватися словниками.
She is considered to be the best singer.	Ії вважають (вона вважається) найкращою співачкою.

Речення з дієсловом-присудком to prove, to turn out перекладаються простими особовими реченнями:

Не turned out to be a good chess-player.

Він виявився хорошим шахістом.

Речення з присудком, вираженим словосполученнями to be likely, to be sure, to be certain, а в багатьох випадках і дієсловами to seem, to appear, перекладаються простими реченнями зі вставними словами:

Не is sure to ring you up.	Він, напевно, зателефонує вам.
They are likely to be late.	Вони, очевидно, запізняться.
She seems to have spoken on the subject before.	Вона здається, говорила на цю тему раніше.

Вправа 1. Розкрийте дужки, вживаючи за потребою частку to, перекладіть речення.

1. He made me (do) it all over again. 2. He made her (repeat) the message. 3. Please let me (know) your decision as soon as possible. 4. I’d like him (go) to a university but I can’t make him (do) it. 5. I want her (learn) English. 6. I felt the house (shake) with the explosion. 7. What do you want me (tell) him? 8. I saw the plane (crash) into the hill. 9. The teacher advised us (use) dictionaries. 10. Her father doesn’t allow her (go) to the cinema alone. 11. All mothers want their children (be) strong and healthy. 12. The woman asked me if I had heard the baby (cry). 13. The farmer got up early yesterday and saw the sun (rise).

We suppose the engineers to begin their research in a few days. 12. I believe her to be speaking to the manager in the office now.
