Single chip ZigBee

Chipcon has announced the CC2430 family , a One-Chip ZigBee solution with on-chip programmable flash memory and a certified ZigBee software stack.

Approximately the size of a 1 ct diamond (7?7 mm) the chip combines a robust radio, programmable micro-controller, flash memory, and both IEEE802.15.4 and ZigBee software in a 48 pin package. There are three products, varying in size of on-chip flash memory, each cost-optimised for different IEEE 802.14.4/Zigbee applications.

During receive and transmit modes, the current consumption of the CC2430 is as low as 27 mA and 25 mA. Sleep modes and short transition times to active modes give very long battery lifetime. They can be used for all ZigBee nodes, including coordinators, routers and end devices.

Synchronous step-down

The MP2104, a 1.7MHz synchronous stepdown regulator from MPS, has two fixed output voltage options of 1.5V and 1.8V, in addition to the previously released adjustable output version, which is capable of supplying output voltages as low as 0.6V.

Intended for portable applications, the regulator has an input voltage range of 2.5 to 6 volts, suitable for supporting operation from one Li-Ion cell or up to 4 alkaline, NiMH, or NiCd cells.

Latched sink drivers

The A6800 and A6801 latched sink drivers from Allegro MicroSystems are fabricated using Allegro's DABiC-5 merged BiMOS technologyto combine high-current, highvoltage outputs with CMOS logic.

The new devices are pin-to-pin compatible with Allegro's earlier UCN5800 and UCN5801

products, but with 3.3-5 V logic capability, lower saturation voltage and higher data rates (up to 10 MHz) and switching speeds.

The combination of a CMOS input section and bipolar n-p-n Darlington outputs make the devices suitable for interfacing computer or microprocessor I/O circuitry to inductive loads such as relays, solenoids and small DC motors.

CAM soft error immunity

Renesas has a new technology that aims to significantly improve soft error immunity in content addressable memory devices used in networking and communication equipment .

Data from a 144 Kbit ternary-CAM (TCAM) test chip incorporating the technology and fabricated in a 130 nm CMOS process confirmed an improvement in soft error immunity of approximately six digits compared with chips without it. The technology uses three main elements: It incorporates embedded DRAM with ECC into the CAM device, it provides a test circuit that efficiently measures the CAM soft error rate during a search and it adds circuits that automate CAM data maintenance operations.

Gigabit-Ethernet interface

LAUTERBACH has added two new modules to its TRACE32 PowerTools product range. PowerDebug II is the first module to provide a Gigabit-Ethernet interface. PowerTrace II

– the other new addition – has a 2-GB trace memory. This allows users to record and evaluate the program flow and data accesses of software over long periods.

With the Gigabit-Ethernet interface of the new PowerDebug II module, users can download programs from a host computer to a target computer at extremely high speed, essential for analysing large trace memories. PowerDebug II

currently provides support for the trace ports of over 30 different processor architectures.

The 2-GB trace memory of PowerTrace II means that it can monitor long periods of program run time. Each item of information saved is given a timestamp with a resolution of 10 ns.

Copper/optical VME

Switching Solution

Curtiss-Wright has introduced two new optical fiber XMC modules, the RazorBlade III-SX and RazorBlade IV-LX, that, when used with the SVME/DMV-680 SwitchBlade Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch, deliver 24ports of wire-speed GbE performance over copper and optical fibre.

The combination is intended for use in IntraPlatform Networks (IPN) that link today’s transformational IP-based networks on-board air, land and sea vehicles for defense and aerospace applications.

Because optical fibres are insensitive to Electro-Magnetism Interference and RadioFrequency Interference (EMI\RFI) they are highly suitable for many military and communications applications where high signal quality, secure data transmission, and survivability are essential.
